Established in 1995, Prostate Oncology Specialists Inc. has earned national acclaim for its comprehensive approach to managing prostate cancer. Under the direction of Medical Director Mark Scholz, M.D., one of the nation’s leading prostate cancer specialists, Prostate Oncology Specialists employ a highly-skilled team of physicians trained in oncology, radiology, hematology, and internal medicine at its facility in Marina del Rey, CA.
The Prostate Oncology Specialists is one of the nation’s few oncology practices that offer a comprehensive treatment program for male patients at all stages of the disease–which claims the lives of about 30,000 U.S. men each year. Our program includes physician consultations, health screening, referral services, prostate ultrasound/biopsy, hematology, hormone intervention, cryotherapy, immunotherapy, chemotherapy and angiogenesis therapies. Vitamin, herbal and lifestyle counseling are also available.
Our physicians are nationally recognized experts in radiation, surgery, cryotherapy, HIFU and seed implantation. However, our medical oncologists do not perform surgery, radiation or brachytherapy in-house. Our medical team works closely with oncology surgeons and radiologists who can perform such treatments if necessary. Our affiliates include St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica and Marine Campus of the Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina del Rey.
However, not all cases require surgery, and must, therefore, be further evaluated before a decision is made. As an independent medical group, Prostate Oncology Specialists make recommendations about treatments and therapy options based solely on a case by case basis. Prostate Oncology Specialist’s ongoing mission is two-fold: research and implement new medical breakthroughs for the treatment and management of prostate cancer and inform our patients about effective, minimally invasive treatments.
Prostate Oncology Specialists are pioneering the use of fusion imaging with the combination of ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging to detect and monitor tumors long before they are large enough to be detected by any other technology. High-resolution, color Doppler ultrasound imaging of the prostate gland profoundly enhances the ability to diagnose and monitor the disease. This unique approach, combining information from both ultrasound and MRI offers a way to safely monitor small, early stage cancers thus opening up possibilities for newer, less toxic forms of treatment in men whose traditional choices have been restricted to either surgery or radiation.
